Ghost Hunting 101:
The Most Important Tools
THE MOST IMPORTANT TOOLS to have on a supernatural investigation are a notebook and a pen or pencil. Here is the cover of mine.
There is still some debate about whether it is better to use a pen or a pencil. I personally use whichever I grab first (as I tend to carry both).
You will notice I use a notebook with graph paper in it. This is because my drawing skills are not extremely great. The graph lines allow me to make sketches easier.
Inside the cover I have written down several sizing estimates so I can more accurately state where various thing are located in a building. here are the basics of what should be included for your references.
All of these are different for different people and each persons notebook will have different measurements. The pace is a regular walking step.
The handspan is the distance from the tip of your thumb to the tip of your pinkie what your hand is spread open and flat on a surface. the jooint is the distance along the joint, below the fingernail (not the one containing the fingernail, but the one below it) on your index finger.
And the foot, is your bare foot when you are standing upright. The only measure left off this list (due to my own laziness) is the size of the shoeprint in inches.
Other measurements can be added as the need occurs.
THESE ARE FOR QUICK ESTIMATING OF DISTANCES ONLY! Should exact measurements be required, for whatever reason, a tape measure would be required.
Finally, there is some info that should be included at the start of each investigation. Shown here are the date and time of the start of the investigation.

Some of the other info that should be there would be the location (not shown here out of respect for the property owners on this investigation) and a description of the building (not necessary, but helpful at times). Also helpful on outside investgations would be a note about the weather (cloudy, rainy, clear, etc).
Also the notebook should include any information found out investigating the history of the site. The more details that are included in the notebook, the more helpful it will be to future investigations (both of the same location and other locations investigated).
