As part of our desire to serve the communities in our area, we assisted the National New
York Central Railroad Museum in Elkhart, IN with it's first annual "Touch A Truck" event.
The purpose of this event was to raise funds for the restoration of a 1938 International
Harvester KV5 Railway Express Agency Delivery Truck. The museum is hoping to use this
truck as a show piece to be enter into parades in the area to bring more attention to
the fact that Elkhart, IN has a national treasure in the form of this railroad museum.
Since their were basically no funds with which to set up and run this event, the museum
was in great need of volunteer assistance. The M.S.A. was happy to chip in and help.
During the 2-day event, the museum brought in more than 200 visitors to the event (some
70+ of them had never been to the museum before), and was able to over $600 towards the
restoration of the delivery truck. News coverage from a local TV station helped bring
even more attention to the railroad museum.
Plans are already underway for next year's "Touch A Truck" event. The M.S.A. will be
assisting in next year's event as well. And we will be assisting in several of the
interrim events (as well as assisting in the restoration of the museums many railroad cars)
as well.
In my rush to get to the event each day, I forgot to bring my camera to obtain photos.
One of our other members (Greywolf
) took pictures and they will be posted (along with descriptions) as soon
as possible.
End of Report.
